Timber Towns Victoria, together with Rural Councils Victoria, hosted the Emerging Terrestrial carbon Market: A briefing for rural and regional municipalities on Thursday 11 March 2010. The briefing highlighted what terrestrial carbon is and the implications and opportunities for local government. The highlight speaker was Mr Peter Cosier, Executive Director of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists. Peter gave delegates an overview of terrestrial carbon, what this means for land use planning, and the role of local government. Annual General Meeting Success |

The Timber Towns Victoria AGM was held at Parliament House, Melbourne on Friday 12 March 2010. Representatives from Parliament, Industry and Member Councils were in attendance to hear guest speakers Ewan Waller and Garry Tepper. Ewan, Chief Officer Fire and Emergency, Department of Sustainability and Environment, spoke on the recent fire impacts on forestry and local government. Garry, Program Manager Transport, RIDF, Regional Development Victoria, spoke on local roads funding under the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund including the Local Roads to Market program. The morning finished off with the election of office bearers for the coming year. Cr Malcolm Hole of Wellington Shire Council was again elected for President, with Cr Bill Harrington from Baw Baw Shire Council elected as Vice President. Mr Jim McKay, West Wimmera Shire Council, was elected Treasurer.  Cr Hole with Garry Tepper and Ewan Waller. |

The National Timber Councils Taskforce was founded in 2007 following a request from the Howard Commonwealth Government to establish a national network of councils involved in forestry and plantation, referred to in Victoria as ‘timber towns’.
